So it seems I am know posting about once a month...whoops...

Collin is doing awesome! We've gotten a routine down. He is taking great naps. The sleeping at night....ehh... that's another story. Well I can't say it's all bad. Sometime he sleeps a good 9-10 hours! Other nights he wants to wake up at 2, then again at 4. I have a feeling it is his gums hurting him though. They look like they are starting to get a little swollen and he is dripping pools of drool. I'm sure it won't be too long before we see a little tooth. :( I like the gummy smile!! Anyways, this is our schedule:
7 am - wakes up, gets a diaper change and eats
Then we play for a little while
8-8:30 - he starts to get tired so we read a story and he takes a nap
9:30ish - wakes up from his nap
we play a little until his next feeding
10 - feed
then we get to go run errands or get out of the house for a little bit
12:30ish - takes a cat nap for about 20 minutes
1 - feed
play again and read a story
3 - naptime again (sometimes he takes a long nap (2 hr) here)
4 - feed
then the rest of the evening is pretty random because it depends when he wakes up from his long nap and he also feeds on demand ever 2 hours or so to make sure he is full for the nighttime
8 - Stoli, Collin and I (and sometimes Pat if he can take a few minutes off) - go for a walk
8:30 - Collin gets his bath
8:45 - feed
9 - 9:30 - bedtime

Hmm... so I think we have a pretty good schedule down, but if you read this and it sounds absurd keep it to yourself!!! Hahah... it took me forever to get to a point where I felt like I have some control over my day and can plan any outings accordingly.

Anyways... as far as Collin's development, it seems like everyday he learns or does something new.

He started rolling over (purposely) from his back to his tummy when we were on McAllen (on June 30th to be exact). From then on, we haven't been able to get him to sleep on his back anymore. The first few nights it terrified me because all you read and hear about is how babies HAVE to sleep on their backs. I called the nurse at the doctors office and asked her advice on what to do if he keeps rolling over to sleep on his tummy. She sounded like she thought it was the dumbest question anyone ever asked. She was like "it's fine once he can roll over." Well.... NOBODY ever says that!!! Ugh... and to think of all the sleep I missed out on trying to make sure wasn't suffocating. I still try to lay him on his back sometimes but he immediately rolls over. He likes to sleep on his stomach like me I guess.

So why I'm really posting today is because we had a breakthrough with Collin interacting with Stoli today!! He was laying on the floor doing tummy time and Stoli walked up to him and he just started cracking up. Until now he had looked at her but not really taken any notice of her or tried interacting with her. I noticed he was laughing at her so I picked him up and sat him up by Stoli on the couch while she played with her toy. He just kept laughing and laughing at her. Then later we went to sit outside on the swing and I turned on the hose because Stoli loves to play in sprinklers. So I sprayed it like a sprinkler and Collin thought it was funny watching Stoli play in the water also. It was hilarious. THEN..and this is the coolest... when Pat got home he came and sat on the swing with us and Stoli jumped up to sit with us up there and Collin actually started petting her on his own!!!!!! He stroked her a few times and then very uncoordinatedly grabbed her skin. Hahah... She just sat there like the great dog that she is and let him. She almost went to grab her ears but we stopped him. It was so cute though!! I can just imagine what Stoli has coming to her in the near future with Collin trying to play with her.

Oh yeah... and last night was another funny scenario. So we finish bathing Collin. I feed him. Get him nice and full. Then I start reading to him before bed. He starts getting sleepy so I start rocking him a little to get him nice and ready to be put down. All of a sudden he poops and wakes himself up! Dang it....time to change and start all over trying to get him ready for bed. Ok... we sit back down. Start another story...Dang it!! Another poop!! Change again... Nope..not done yet... ANOTHER poop!!! THREE dirty diapers in like 10 minutes!!!!! Let's just say he was nice and relaxed and slept for like 10 hours after that.. hahaha.. I was worried he had diarreah or something. Nope... just wanted to keep it all in until nighttime I guess...

In other news, we converted our upstairs living room into more of a playroom for Collin. Our downstairs was starting to become an amusement park of baby rides. We moved the table we had upstairs into the attic and put down those rubber squares that connect like puzzle pieces. So now he has a place where all of his toys are and we can just sit up there and play and be close to the nursery also. Plus it's getting close to the time that he will start crawling and I don't want him banging into tables and stuff down here when he is playing.

Ok...well I have pictures on the camera, but I haven't had a chance to upload them....will do it soon.

6/18/09

Ok I finally got Collin to bed early (relatively speaking). So I have tons to update!

Let's see....

Collin is now almost 18lbs!! He's really big for his age. I'm not sure how long he is, but I know he's getting to big to burp sitting down because when I put him on my shoulder he just wants to try to stand on me so I have to stand up so that his legs hang. At this rate, next month I'll be able to say "hey collin.. go run around and burp yourself." Haha! That's what it feels like sometimes! He is already wearing clothes for 6 month old babies and he's only going to be 4 months. They're going to stop making diapers in his size before he is potty trained :-/ Although he is only in the 90% so I guess there have to be SOME babies bigger than him at his age..right?

He can now hold his head up pretty well. We got him a "tummy time" mat and he really likes it more than just being on a blanket because it doesn't move around and it has a little pillow to help prop up his chest. He also likes sitting in his Bumbo seat now that he can hold his head up. The only problem with him being able to look around is that he doesn't want to STOP looking around! Especially at bedtime!!! Arrgh!! He thinks he's going to learn all about the whole world between the hours of 10pm-1am!!! Well... it's probably also because we went to Hawaii and there is a 5 hour time difference so his schedule is off, but he didn't have any trouble adjusting over there... just coming home. However, I am happy to report that he did awesome on the plane ride!! I was really worried about it, but he did great! On the way over there he was awake most of the time (8hrs!), but he was laughing and just looking around. When we got there the people sitting in front of us turned around and said what a good baby he was and that they didn't even hear him once. Crazy! Then on the way back he slept almost the entire way. Unfortunately for me I didn't get much sleep because it's hard to hold a baby on your lap and fall sleep and not be afraid you won't drop him. So good plane travel is just one more thing you can add to the list for making him a perfect baby! :)

Man.. I can't wait till he grows up and I can tell him all the things I have gone through for him already!! Breastfeeding is supposed to be such a "beautiful thing," and don't get me wrong, I love being able to feed him now, but boy does it have its troubles. Let me tell you about just a couple embarrassing things that happened to me on the trip. The first one happened on the plane ride over there. As I'm sure everyone knows, women are supposed to wear pads to keep from leaking. Well I had to take mine off to feed him, so I very subtly set it next to me on my chair. Well... the MALE flight attendant decided that he needed to get ALL the trash from my area and proceeded to pick up my breast pad!!! I was like "ohh...ummm...no sir... i need that." hahahah... He just smiled and gave it back, but then did it AGAIN towards the end of the flight... only this time he goes "ohh no... sorry..that's your pad" hahahah.. how embarrassing. So as if that wasn't enough for one day, we are at the Honolulu airport waiting for our connecting flight to Maui. Collin started crying that he was hungry, but it was really hot in the airport since it is outdoors, so I had a hard time feeding him, especially since I have to put him under a cover up. So I gave him a bottle that I had brought instead. But the problem is that I had to find somewhere to go pump since I couldn't feed him. Of course I couldn't sit out in the lobby, so I went to see if I could find an outlet in the restroom and maybe sit in a stall or something. Nope... the only outlet is under one of the sinks (no where near one of the stalls). So I think... "ok... I gotta do what I gotta do.." So I sit down, and just cover up with my feeding shall. And after already being on an 8 hour flight before that, I looked like a homeless person sitting on the bathroom floor with a shall on. No kidding!! I probably could have put out a bowl and gotten some change. Hahah... NOW I know what people mean when they say you'll do anything for your kids!!!

Well then just a little while later, Collin decides to show us that he is not having any problems going to the bathroom anymore. It didn't really smell, so I was just lucky that I was thinking I should go ahead and change him before our next flight. I open the diaper and it's dirty, but realize as I start cleaning his bottom that it not only goes up his bottom, but up his back....waaaayy up his back!! I don't even know how it got up there!! I seriously contemplated throwing his clothes away. Yuck!

Haha... ok so now I realize that instead of writing down all the of the happy milestones Collin has hit, I've just been sharing some of the difficulties we've faced! Let me say that Pat and I both think that Collin is the greatest baby ever! We've both said that if they could all be like him we'd have a ton more. He is giggling now, which is the absolute cutest thing EVER! Whenever he giggles Pat and I make complete fools of ourselves trying to get him to keep laughing. He is getting to the point where he can almost hold his bottle. He grabs it like he wants to, and sometimes he will kind of hold it for a little bit, but he doesn't quite have control of it so hold it on his own.

He is getting baptized on July 25th. Mario Luis and Stephanie are going to be his godparents. I'm excited that Mario Luis is going to finally get to see Collin again. He hasn't seen him since he was 2 weeks old. Stephanie says he changes every time she sees him (which is pretty often), so I'm sure Mario Luis will be shocked. It's not the same in pictures!!

Ok, it's getting late so I'm off for now. I just wanted to give an update on some of the things that have been going on. Make sure to check out the most recent pictures on the post before this one!

Again, I haven't had time to blog. And right now I want to blog, but I'm still jet-lagged from the trip to Hawaii. Collin is napping right now so I'm going to do the same! But I wanted to post pictures that have been accumulating on our camera since early May! I didn't realize I had over 150 pictures to post! Here they are! Check back later today for a blog entry...

5/3/09

I'm sorry to all of you that actually read this blog for falling behind. I usually just make sure to write when I have pictures to add, but now that Collin will actually sit in his swing and entertain himself for all of about 2 minutes I might be able to write a little more often.

Today was a little bit of a difficult day. Well actually... I should say it started out pretty good! He slept for almost 8 full hours last night! Of course only him and Pat got to enjoy it since I woke up every 20 minutes thinking he was going to wake up soon, and then when he didn't wake up make sure he was OK and still breathing. And then after moving him because he kept sliding down in the bassinet staying awake for another 10 minutes thinking "Ok..now he's definitely going to wake up." So the whole family got good sleep except me.... I guess that's the way it goes :(

Well after he finally woke up around 7am I fed him and he stayed awake for a little while and then fell back asleep... so naturally I started to worry thinking something was wrong. Let me tell you.... parenting = worrying!!!!! And worrying = stress!!!!!! And he's only 2 months old!!!!!! Now I know why people say this is the hardest job ever!!!!

Anyways, he's been napping on and off all day and being pretty fussy. I don't know if it is a late reaction to the immunizations or if he is getting sick. I hope it'll pass tomorrow.

Pat and I had to go to baptism preparation classes this afternoon. So boring. Pat kept telling me to pay attention because I was trying to text anyone that would talk to me because I was so bored. We had to sit there for 2 1/2 hours. And to top it off, the air wasn't working in there for the first hour so it was like 95 degrees in there. I'm fine with sitting there listening, but I hate audience and group participation so much. We all (like 50 people!!) had to go around the room and introduce ourselves and say how we got our name. How on earth is that relevant to a baptism class??? Way to add a 1/2 hour to the class for no reason at all.

Well that was about it for today. Nothing else to report.... Ohh! except that we tried the next size (2) of diapers on Collin and unsurprisingly they fit him pretty well.

Ok well goodbye for now friends! :)

5/2/09

Things have been going GREAT!!!! Collin is such a happy baby. I feel like I love him even more every day. He is starting to smile so much and laugh. He also recognizes me...finally!! Which I love! :)

We went to the doctor yesterday for his 2 month check up. He got his first set of immunizations, which I'm happy about. It was sad though! He got 3 shots and one orally in the mouth (although he didn't seem to mind that one...he just ate it like it was nothing). They give them all of the shots in their thighs!! Of ALL the painful places!! I would think the thigh would not be a place I would want to receive shots. Poor little guy. He cried, but then I picked him up and tried to soothe him. He stopped crying pretty quickly, but was just fussing a little as we walked out. By the time we hit the car he was asleep. I was worried he was going to be fussy and have fever all day, but not our little guy! He was still smiling and everything. I mean there was a couple fussy moments, but for the most part he was happy as usual. We finally got an official height and weight.... 24 inches / 13 lbs. 4 oz.!!! He is in the 90th percentile for both!! Big boy!! I guess the good news is he is proportional... just short and fat or tall and skinny. He's perfectly proportional!!! Hahah :) Besides that, I have become one of those moms that wants to save everything. (Not that that is surprising since I am the biggest pack rat ever.) Is it weird that I saved the Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny band aids they put on his shots???? I'm gonna put them in his baby book.

I cut his nails for the first time 2 days ago. It was quite difficult!! I was trying soooo hard not to cut him that I don't even think I ended up taking anything off.. haha. I filed them down more than anything else. His nails aren't even that long. I just did it because he finally scratched himself so I thought it was time.

Also... he is now shooting up in size. I felt like it took forever for him to grow out of the newborn stuff, and now he's in the 3 month stuff (snuggly might I add). He moved out of the newborn diapers back in March (We bought the first set of Size 1 diapers the week of March 18th.) Now he is pretty much ready to move to the next size. The exciting part about that is that we have a whole new set of clothes he fits into!!

Ohhhh yeah! And I have to write about his turning over (although everyone that reads this probably already knows.) He has started turning himself over from his belly to his back. He did it a few times and now he starts but gets frustrated... I'm sure he'll do it again soon.

Well that's all I can think of off the top of my head for now. I keep saying I'm going to write more often, but let's face it...I have a new baby.... I am enjoying all my extra time with Collin... not playing on the computer... I'll try to type more often! :)

Check out all the pictures I have been meaning to post. They are from back in March all the way until tonight. Make sure you look at him in his Easter outfit! :) (Oh and not to brag, but the nurse at the doctor's office yesterday told us he looked like an Anne Geddes baby.... I personally think so too!!)

This is my favorite picture!!

4/13/09

I thought I'd write about our funny bathtub adventure last night. Collin is getting very very sneaky! He's already learning how to outsmart his parents.

So...for the past week or so we've been giving Collin a nightly bath, trying to set up a routine so he knows when bedtime is. (Which by the way is working because he falls right to sleep after his bath.) Anyways, we thought we had such a polite little boy because he doesn't spray us normally when we open his diaper. (Well...it's happened to Pat a few times... but he needs to be more efficient! Haha..) Ok..so as I was saying.. for the past week or so we give him a bath and he has started testing us. As SOON as we put him in the bathtub, he hits that warm water and decides to pee so we have to drain the tub and start all over again since we don't want him bathing in pee. (Although I have to admit after the second time I was like "okkk he's gonna have to bathe in it!" But Pat wouldn't let me...hahah) So I finally figured out that if I get a washcloth with warm water and cover his body while Pat dumps over the bathtub and refills it he isn't cold so he doesn't start screaming. We thought we had gotten so good at!!

Well... last night we tried to outsmart him... as Pat was getting the bath ready I opened his diaper and let some air get in there so maybe the cold air would make him go before he got in the water. But of course, I opened it and just covered it so it wouldn't spray everywhere. Pat came over and said I needed to open it more. So he proceeds to take off the diaper. We sat there for a second and sure enough... here comes the pee!!! Pat caught it all in the pee-pee tee-pee!! VICTORY!! We weren't gonna have to drain the tub!!!

So we go put him in the nice clean warm water and NOOOOOO!!!! Here comes the pee!!! hAnd he didnt just pee a little in the bathtub...he pushed so hard it came out of the water and made an arc over the bathtub wall!!!!! Two adults... outsmarted by a 7 week old. I think I even saw him smile and laugh a little as he thought "these two are gonna be so gullible in the future." Dang it.....he sure showed us...
