12/22//08

This morning I had to wake up early and go get my 3-hour glucose tolerance test.  First off.. I knew the morning started off bad because I had forgotten to go pick up my lab orders from my doctors office last week.  My appointment was for 8am this morning, but my dr's office didnt open until 9am so I was afraid I was going to have to wait until 9 to start my test, which basically just annoyed me because I knew I'd have to waiting ANOTHER hour before I could eat/drink anything.
Well I was hoping they could just start the test early and take my word for it and go pick up the orders after I started the 3 hour process, but the lady told me they couldn't start until they had the paperwork.  Ugh!  The lady told me to go knock on my doctor's office door because there is usually someone at the front desk early.  Luckily there was someone.  She gave me the paperwork and I only started like 15 minutes late.
So first, they have to start off by taking your blood once to get your "fasting" blood sugar.  Then you have to chug down this sugary orange drink that tastes horrible.  Kind of like when you drink something too sweet and it feels like it stays in your throat...that's what it was like.  Then they have to take your blood exactly an hour after you finish the drink.  Then again another hour later, and then one more time again another hour after that.  It wouldn't be so bad except they take it out of the same place on your arm.  They did it twice on each of my arms so I have some bruises in the bend of my arm where they take blood.  Good thing shots and giving blood don't bother me.  It wasn't horrible..but it sure didn't feel good.
The other good thing is that I was fully prepared to camp out for over 3 hours in the lab.  I took an audio book and the blanket I'm cross-stitching for the baby.  My wonderful husband also went with me to keep me company.  Why is it that people feel the need to start conversations with you when you're obviously busy?  I mean.. I know people like to make small talk..but I'm sitting there sewing with my headphones ON, and people still want to come up and talk over your music until you take off your headphones.  I shouldn't complain... I know... it's nice... but I'm obviously listening to something right???

Other than having to go do that this morning, it was a great day because Pat's mom came over and helped us organize the entire upstairs of the house.  We had my art stuff all over the place because my old art room is becoming the baby's room so we had to clear it out.  She came over and helped us organize closets and get everything put away!  It looks awesome!  I'm NOT even afraid to open the closet and have stuff fall out on me!! haha... I'm so thankful that she's such an expert organizer.   It probably would have never gotten done.  It's not that I'm too lazy to organize (I don't think...)  It's just that the clutter doesn't really bother me.  I guess that's a bad thing...  :-/    Oh well...   Anyways.. I'm glad that got done.  Little by little the house is getting ready for the baby!   I guess I know what people mean by "nesting."  (Even though I'm not the one cleaning...hehe)  :)

Haha..Pat managed to catch this on camera a couple nights ago.  Stoli always manages to make herself comfortable.  I guess my growing belly is taking up too much of her space under the covers so she's just gonna start taking up my space on the pillow...
